Aiden is the black sheep of his family. Of course, always being covered in grease hasn’t helped, but put anything mechanically broken into his hands and he can fix it. His cold-hearted parents have lived off his talent for years, but apparently, it wasn’t enough. They sell Aiden to slavers and plan to use the funds to buy themselves a life of high social standing within the city. Dumped on a refuse recycling planet along with other enslaved women and children, Aiden uses his talent to transform an ancient wreck of a cargo transport into their escape plan. His plan would have gone off without a hitch, if he hadn’t been shot in the escape. Bleeding, dying, Aiden locks himself into the cockpit of the ship the second help arrives and aids their landing, knowing that unlike the other slaves who have eager families to return to, he has no one. It’s just better if he fades away from this existence.
Jaylon lost all hope of love years ago, when his intended killed herself on the morning of their wedding, rather than face him over her betrayal. Now, as a medic, he has no time to think of what could have been, until a hunk of metal posing as a ship literally falls from the sky. When Jaylon breaks down the cockpit door to the sight of a pale, skinny, yet breathtaking man, bleeding out on the floor, he has to wonder if fate has sent him a second chance at a future, or if it is just reopening an old wound and pouring salt onto it.

Throwaway Mate edition by Ellen Cross Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A friend from the m/m romance forum here on pointed me in Ellen Cross's direction. So this loan it's under 70 pages yet tells such detailed characters. Adien is a talented mechanic and his dad hires him out. He is the youngest in his family and despite his work, his father and mother don't appreciate him. He's been ignored and abused his whole life and the only love given to him is from his older sister and brother.
Things come to a head when Adien's parents sell him to a slaver. At the end of his rope Adien pulls together a rescue. Here he survives an abusive childhood, suffers the deepest betrayal, loses hope as a slave, yet pulls through even if he did wish to die. All that in 63 pages. I am amazed and glad my friend showed me this book. Now to check if this is a series because it's written like one. - Dan's Wife

This was great I hope there's more to come of this book .. I can't wait if there is I will be looking for it..
What to say...except wow. Absolutely loved it. Short and sweet. Loved the story, exceptionally well written. Highly recommended. Good job.
The story seemed rushed and was missing some content I thought. Still a good story though.
There are so many problems with this story.
First and foremost, telling. We are told everything, not shown. We get blocks and blocks of telling. Not to mention bad grammar and spelling usage.
Second, the universe has interesting concepts that are never developed or under explained (while some stuff went on forever). This is a romance with a SF mask. If you are a SF reader hoping for an interesting new world, then skip over this story.
Third, the flashback scene is poorly placed. It completely throws the pacing off for the story. If the author had written, expanded the flashback scene, along with some of the time Aiden spent on the recycling planet, and placed it better, it would have better served the purpose of the story and enriched it. It would have built sympathy for Aiden. But no, none of that is even remotely explored. After the flashback scene that disrupts the storyflow we are immediately thrown into Jaylon mating Aiden to save his life. This itself has consequences that you learn about when reading the book. We also get told (often) that his previous intended killed herself and upset Jaylon so much he almost didn't survive their separation, which throws me into number four.
Fourth, once we are to the point Aiden and Jaylon are together we skip over any relationship building that might make me believe in these characters. Several things about Jaylon's past as dismissed or glossed over and not rectified to make sense with what we've been told. Instead we are told things instead of the author taking time to *show* their relationship developing.
Basically, this story is an outline. It needs work on the world and the story. A good content editor would have helped this story with its potentially interesting universe. Expansion, better explanation, and consistent world rules may have made this a much more interesting romance as well.
I loved this book but it was far too short for me. It had a wonderful plot and some really great moments but I would have liked to have seen more. If you're looking for a short read this is well worth your time.
Great story. Will look into getting more books by Ellen Cross. Liked story and characters. Thank you for really good story.
